La Boca tour |
Buenos
Aires’s La Boca is often considered the birthplace of tango. La Boca
has traditionally been a working class neighborhood.
It was the area
where new immigrants settled while they searched for work. Because the
new arrivals were predominantly men, many brothels opened along the
streets of La Boca.
Caminito is worth visiting and it is not difficult to locate. For
soccer lovers, the Boca Juniors Stadium is located just a few blocks
away.
Recommended steakhouse, El Obrero -trandlated as the worker-its atmosphere has not changed since
it opened nearly fifty years ago it features wood furniture, old-time waiters
and walls adorned with pictures and posters of tango legends and
soccer greats, such as Diego Maradona.
Almost everything on the menu
is wonderful, but I especially recommend Puchero, a Spanish-American
dish made of poached chicken or beef, sausage, corn and potatoes.
